Workflow Status field in Project 2007

Once an admin changed the status field in project 2007, does it break the built in proposal workflow? They went and modified that field list for more steps in the process which may have, and we hope not, broken that process forever :( If so, how can it be reverted back to working the way it is intended? IF not, how can I get proposals working in Project 2007 using this changed state field? :eek:
