Works Publisher 2000 to Office Publisher 2003

Tutu

My old computer had the P2000, I now have the 2003. The P2003 is not
recognizing my 2000 files. How do I correct this.

Ditto for Works "generic" database to Office Access 2003

You mention Works which makes me wonder if you are thinking that Home
Publishing is the same thing as Publisher. It isn't. Could this be the
problem?

Have you ever wondered why MS insists on giving products names that can
easily be confused with each other? I have some real issues with that.

Works does not, has not, and never will contain Publisher. Home Publisher
and Publisher are *NOT* the same thing. You cannot open HP files with
Publisher.

Works databases aren't compatible with Access. There may be a convertor
available as a plugin, but I don't know of one. You'd be better off asking
this in an Access group.

Mahalo, your response just about covered it. I "assumed" that the "Publisher" on my old computer (since it was from Microsoft), and the Home Publisher that part of the Office setup were the same. I mean they are both from MS are they not? In any case it look like I have to recreate over 100 card layouts on my new computer, or load the "other" publisher on this computer if it won't screw things up. Yikes. Thanks again for your response.

They are not the same program but both are sold by Microsoft. This is one of
the many examples of names that can be too similar for the beginning user to
know which one they are talking about. (That's not a slam against anyone in
particular. We've seen this mistake made often.)

Home Publishing is for use by the average occasional computer user.
Publisher is a more professional program. (There will be some who want to
argue that point but ...) I use Publisher for doing newsletters for the
non-profit group I belong to. Publisher can also be used to make greeting
cards but I tend to support Hallmark. ;-) I was able to make some lovely
wedding announcement cards to send out last year to let my relatives know
that I'd tied the knot. And the thank you cards for those who were kind
enough to send gifts.

There's no reason why you can't have both Home Publishing and Publisher on
the same system. *HOWEVER* (you knew there would be a catch, didn't you?)
Works was pre-installed on your other computer when you bought it, you
cannot install it on your new computer. If the other computer works, keep it
and use it when you need those other files. Why recreate the old cards? Just
call this the start of new designs.

Your MS Home Publishing 2000 files have
an extension of .php and are compatible
with all versions of MS Picture It! / MS Digital
Image

If you have the disks for MS Works Suite
2000, you can install MS Home Publishing
2000 on your new machine. Before installing,
close all open programs and disable your virus
scanner.

Here's an article that may help:

Thanks again. I make cards with my photographs, and do many reprints of
popular cards. But they can be recreated, it's just a hassel (but isn't
everything).
