Good Night Nurse!!!

If you don't have sense enough to know what Microsoft Office is, or you don't
have sense enough to figure out if Microsoft Word is included in Vista, then,
praise the Lord, why would anyone trust your judgment of Vista?

What a dink!

Microsoft Word has "never" been a part on ANY operating system. If you buy a
computer from one of the major manufacturers, it "may" have come
pre-installed on your computer. It it did you paid for it as part of the
price of the computer.

Now that people are clamoring for computers in the sub $500 range, guess
what gets left out?

If you want Word you have to buy Word - either with a new computer or as a
separate package.

Microsoft Word has never been a part of the operating system, and is not
provided with Vista.
If you got it or other Office products on a computer before, it was included
by the retailer as part of a package.

If you have a copy of Word, you can probably install it and use it. I'm
using Word 2003.

Wow...take a breath and count to 10...I don't know why people get so
emotional over an operating system...it's just 0s and 1s. You can always
downgrade to Windows XP if that would help calm the swelling rage :)

Anyway...Word does not come with Vista so you have to buy it. Perhaps you
meant "Microsoft Office" or "Microsoft PowerPoint" when you referred to
"Office Point"? Word comes with Microsoft Office (along with Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access...depending on the version you buy). You can
also buy just Word by itself. It's more cost effective to purchase Office,
unless you intend to use only Word.

Does that come anywhere near answering your question?

Hi,
Look for this from the start menu: All Programs/Accessories/Word Pad. Word
Pad doesn't seem to be as elaborate as Microsoft Word, but it seems a good
level or two higher than Notepad. Maybe that could work for you.

Microsoft Word can be bought as a single application (it's often available
at places like Office Depot or Staples) or as a part of the Microsoft Office
Suite, which comes in many different versions and sizes, depending upon your
business needs.

I understand Vista can be frustrating, but make sure your drivers are up to
date (check the Original products' company websites) and be careful not to
install any software until you know that it's Vista Certified. To install
software that does not come with that guarantee is simply to invite trouble.

Good Luck, Frank Bright

hello... sometimes but not always office is bundled along with windows on
some machines, in packages
that are called "microsoft works" or something similar...

however vista normally does not come with office.

if you have an older office it still can be installed on vista
if you dont have any office then you can try openoffice from
www.openoffice.org
that is free and can open and save .doc formats.

If you are a student you might want to look into some cheap student versions
of office 2007
that you can find if you look search the internet.

As you are a MVP, will you help me?
I just bough a DELL inspiron 6400 with Vista installed.
I want to uninstall it and install XP.
I can use AUTOCAD because is not compatible with Vista.
It is incredible that a new OS cannot support old OS applications.
Also, I found my XP was faster in every aspect.
I tried to install XP but is not easy anymore. Something with the Vista Boot.
By my experience of two hours in Vista just make me hate it.
The major problem is the compatibility with my working software, and because
of that I need XP.
But, if someone find me a solution that let me use AUTOCAD in Vista, I will
try to keep my XP.
From my point of view XP is a better OS.
I think this is the blog to make my question (because I did not found any
other on Microsoft where I can find a solution or answer to my questions).
My name is Johnathan Edghill.
Let me know if you now where to solve this issue.

the latest version of autocad is vista compatible.. what version are you
trying to use?

autocad always had compatibility problems with microsft updates and os
changes...
it has happened before...

You can install XP again if you do a CLEAN install by booting with the cd
and formating..

but of course make sure you have your data backed up before you do this.

Well if you HATE Vista so much it doesn't really matter what word
product you use now does it?

Download and install another OS there are plenty open source ones to
choose from.....all with some variation to Word. Just ask any of the
helpful people who hang out in here trying to recruit people away from
Vista, I am sure they will be more then happy to point you in the right
direction and offer all the help and support you might need.

As far as Microsoft Word........it is not part of Vista that is sold
seperately.

May I ask why you can't return your PC?

You bought a computer with Vista...but you didn't check first to see
whether your old software was compatible with Vista...

You bought a computer with a different operating system from the one you
had before...and gave up on it after two hours...despite all the
information available (for free) that shows you how to use it...

You have a question about AutoCAD and Vista...but you post in newsgroups
for Office, Internet Explorer and Windows Live Messenger...

You think a newsgroup is a blog...

I think I see a pattern here.

Even though I'm very happy with Vista, I won't comment on your hatred
of it, but let me answer the question about Microsoft Word.

No, it's not part of Vista. Neither Vista, Windows XP, Windows 98, nor
any other version of Windows, has ever included Excel, Word,
PowerPoint, Access, or any other significant application software.
Such programs have to be bought, either by themselves or as part of
Microsoft Office.

If your previous computer, running an older version of Windows, came
with Word, it was because the vendor who sold it bundled it as part of
the package he sold you, not because that version of Windows came with
it. Some, but not all, vendors do the same with Windows Vista.

"Office Point"? I don't know any product called "Office Point." If
you mean Microsoft Office, that is Microsoft's suite of office
application software. It includes Word, Excel, and other programs,
depending on which version you buy.

You can buy Microsoft Office, but if all you want of it is Microsoft
Word, you can also buy Word by itself. Or you can acquire any of
several other word processing programs: Corel WordPerfect, StarOffice,
or the freeware OpenOffice. Your choice.

If we keep burdened down trying to make everthing backwards compatable
how are we ever going to move forward into the future? Every version of
an OS is transitional, as new technology is added we have to let older
technology fade away. So in saying that were does one draw a cut off
line? that will always be debatable and we never will agree.

So I guess the best way is.......if you don't like something just
don't buy it.

Trust me Microsoft is out to make money not out to make sure that all
our old outdated software still works, Money talks bullshit walks. You
want change? Don't give them any of your hard earned cash. Simple!

Well, there goes a *huge* chunk of Vista upgrades for businesses.

Too bad this might come back and bite AutoDesk in the *ss in the long run.

I dunno, AutoDESK has been working the subscription angle the last 3-4
years, so the people who want to stay up with the features, pay an
annual fee and receive the current version as it comes out. Similar to
Microsoft's "Software assurance" licensing arrangement. On the other
hand a lot of shops won't move to Vista until the older PC's are due to
be replaced, so they won't actually shift for a year maybe 2 anyway.

Microsoft Office and Microsoft Works are different.
The Works Suite does include Word.
