XP/Pub97 print problem

Looking for help last night I saw a question concerning using Publisher 97
on XP. Since the answer was yes, I have a different question. I used to
print statements with publisher, and had a clip-art at the top. Now, since
I upgraded to XP, the clip-art does not print. Late last night I found that
if I save the file then reload it, I can print one copy. The second print
operation drops the clip-art. As long as I reload the file first, I can
print another copy. I feel this is a 'settings' problem, but can't find
anything that seems to fit. I really don't know where to look, Windows,
Publlisher, or printer.
Anyone ever see anything like this?

By the way, the hardware is all the same as before, only change is Win95 to
WinXP Home.

Thanks, Stan

This is *NOT* a Publisher issue as there are no known printing problems
known that are caused by Publisher. I would suggest this is a problem with
the driver for your printer. Now, if it's the same printer you were using
under 95, there may not be an XP driver for it and you may be forced to
either use the 2000 driver (if such exists) or the one included with XP. If
the latter, then please be aware that it's only a basic driver (enough to
print) and some of the more advanced features you enjoyed under 95 will not
be available (if it's an HP with a duplexing mode then you will lose the
duplex under XP). I suggest you update the printer driver (if such a thing
exists). If it doesn't, and XP's native driver isn't doing it for you, then
my only suggestion is to purchase a 'designed for Windows XP' printer to be
sure of full compatibility.

Thanks, M.S., I tried what you suggested, but no good. Second print command
does not include picture.

Thanks also, Perdita, even though this is not what I wanted to hear. I have
an Epson Stylus Color 600, which is
evidently not a large user inventory item, because in re-checking the Epson
site, there is no updated driver for XP.
Nor is there any way that I can find to contact Epson to see if a driver
might be in the works for XP. Soooo..........
if this becomes a problem, another brand will be purchased. For now, this
will do what I want, so I'll keep it for awhile.

If anyone else has a problem 'losing' inserted clip-art or pictures on
second print command, just reload the file before the second print command.
If this happens to help someone else, all is not lost.

BETTER WORKAROUND: Just had a thought when I typed "second print command",
and tested it. Instead of using the print icon on the toolbar, I clicked
File, then Print, which brings up a pop-up which has a copies peephole. I
set that
to 2 and was able to print the 2 copies I need without reloading the file.

Stan how large is this file in ZIPped?
If it is under 1:00Mb send it to auslandline at hotmail com in the correct
format.
I will see if it is corrupt or what the issue is with it.
I really appreciate your help, but I'm so dense I don't know for sure what
to do?

I assume you mean the PUB Statement I'm trying to print. (I've been told
what happens when I assume)!
I don't know what you mean by ZIPped. Do I need to ZIP the file somehow
before sending? I know how to unzip files that I've downloaded because it's
usually automatic. I have no idea how to ZIP one.
If I get around all the above, do I change your address to what probably
should be obvious?

Thanks,
Stan

I sent the file to "***M*S*Publisher***" (I don't know how to make the
little donuts he uses in his name), he tested it and found it to be a
perfectly good Publisher file. He printed it on 2 different printers and it
worked fine. As speculated several days ago, I just lost some printer
function when I updated my OS to XP. Seems like I made a step backward in
that area, but it's a small inconvenience, and the reliability of XP over
Win95 more than makes up for it.

Thanks for all the help on this issue. I hope someone else is helped as
well.

Regards,
Stan

Stan it is the Epson printer driver that is the issue. Epson have failed to
update their printer drivers, which is not a Microsoft issue in any way. To
be frankly honest, I am surprised you have an Epson 600 that is still
functioning. The print heads in them where nothing startling and often
clogged and failed. You must have been exceptionally lucky. Epson sales
have dwindled dramatically especially with their current models and major
chip problems they brought upon themselves and still not addressed over the
last two years. Considering Epson was part of the Seiko company, and don't
know if they still are, find it hard to believe they have not changed their
mongrel chip system.

Overall XP is a quantum leap from Win95 in every way, and a far more capable
reliable operating system. Yes, the reliability of XP is magic when a
program crashes.

How you make the degree symbols is Alt+0176 and the numbers have to be from
the Numeric Keypad only. Pull up the Character Map and you can find out how
to do all the Extended Characters in the 255 Extended Character set.
