I do not plan to use Microsoft Word Office. All I want right now is to be
able to create blank documents, so that I can copy, edit, and save news items
etc. What purchase, if any, is necessary?

You cannot use the program without buying it. If you do not plan to use it,
then you need to uninstall it. You may well be able to use WordPad for your
needs. If you find you need a fuller-featured word processor, you might try
the one in Works. For only a little more money, however, you can get a full
version of Word 2002 in Works Suite 2004. See
