A folder changed into a file, what do I do?

I had a folder with several files in it. It opened 2 days ago. Today, it says
it’s a file not a file folder. Its not something I can open to retrieve the
subfolders. I don’t know what to do?

What do you mean by files? Do you actually mean subfolders?
What Outlook version is this? What type of Folder?
