A monster file

I have 9 Word files doc. Total size: 720Kb

After creating a single file with all that 9 files, I got a 35Mb (!)
file.

Why is that possible? How can I solve this?

As you have already discovered, by saving as a Word doc instead of RTF. And
if you had posted this directly to msnews instead of through ExcelForum, it
would have appeared yesterday.
