a question about PSTs...

I don't have Exchange, so my PST is stored locally which I backup weekly. In
the event of a crisis the intention would be to restore from CD (though I
have not tried this...)

I seem to remember that a PST can only grow so big - so my questions?

A: should the PST restore OK - is there anything I should know about this?
B: how big can a PST grow before it causes problems?

cheers

A: The PST restore should be fine, just make sure that you remove the
read-only attribute that will likely be applied to the file when you place
it on the CD/DVD.

B: In the past a PST file had a 2GB limit, but this was changed starting
with Outlook 2003. If you are using Outlook XP or prior you'd have to use
multiple PSTs if you needed to exceed this size.

a. - it depends on which version of outlook you're using. Outlook 2002
and above has the PST store everything, contacts, calendar, etc. But
if you drop down to outlook 2000 and before, you'll have to store your
contacts separately.

b. - Officially, the size is 2gig. In practice, they tend to start
giving issues between 1,950mb and 1,990mb.

If you backup with a backup applications such as Acronis, then you don't
have to worry about restoring - it will be restored exactly the way it was.

Regarding PST file size limit; if the format is 97-2002, then the limit
is 2GB, otherwise there is no real limit.
