Access 2007 quit working

B

Bill

I have legal copy (with disks) of Access 2007 as part of Office 2007 Pro. I
have a program (for managing a school auction) that runs on Access 2003
run-time. As soon as I used the auction program for the first time, it
killed Access 2007. Whenever I try to run it, it goes to "preparing to
install" then fails with message "Automatic configuration of the current
version of Microsoft Office Access has failed. Your database might not
function correctly. This can occur if you do not have the necessary
permissions to install Microsoft Office Access on this computer."
I am the administrator, and I tried diabling UAC. I also tried reinstalling
Office 2007 from orginal disk, but that fails almost immediately. I tried
uninstalling Office 2007 and it says "Setup could not find available products
to install." The otehr Office components seem to work fine.
Help!

Bill,

I suggest uninstalling Office2007, resinstalling and then applying all of
the Office2007 updates. After you uninstall Office2007, test office 2003 to
assure it is running properly, otherwise uninstall and reinstall it also.

I found that Office2007 isn't very friendly to previous versions, so maybe
they are on the offensive to destroy it before it destroys them. ;)

God Bless,

I began having the exact same problems on multiple computers as Bill late
last week. I suspect we have the same cause....

I have attempted to remove Office 2007 completely (control panel/Programs &
Features); this failed with a message of
"The detection failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation base."
