Access & Word Open Slowly from My Recent Documents Menu

When I try to open Access & Word documents from the My Recent Documents Menu,
it can take a minute or more for them to open. If I open those same apps
directly and then open the desired files, there is no delay. There is also
no delay when I open all other files via the My Recent Documents Menu. What
can I do to solve this issue? I am running Office XP and Windows XP with the
latest updates.
