Actual Work Field Not Editable in Web Access

R

Ruben

Greetings!

I am trying to have one of my resources to report
completion on tasks using Web Access.

This is a test set up. That is I am assuming different
roles by being a project admin and resource.
As a project manager I created a project in Project 2002
and published it unto the Project Server. So far things
are OK.

I then used my resource's account and logged into Project
Server from my machine. His account is Project Server
Authenticated.

I am on a Win2k machine into which I am logged as a domain
user.

I have no problems logging as my resource.
I then go to My Tasks. Select Timesheet view in the left
pane.

And as resource I try reporting completion of tasks.
Two fields that are available are EDITABLE are:
% Work Complete and Remaining Work.

I CAN input values into % Work Complete field. Everything
gets saved/updated on the resource side
And I as project manager am able to update this completion
report.

HOWEVER

I want to have my resource reporting Actual Work using
hours. This field is present ...BUT it is NOT editable

Whatever I did so far did NOT help making Actual Work
field editable.

I got into Admin---->Customize Microsoft Project Web
Access -->Tracking settings.

There I select "Hours of work done per day or per week:
Resources report the hours worked on each task during each
time period" radio button.

I did a ton of other stuff.

What could be the reason?
Why in the view that allows resources to report task
completion Actual Work field is NOT editable?

Why me changing tracking options on the ENTIRE Project
Server does NOT have any effect on the view?

Could this be a view issue? Perhaps resource's group
membership issue?
Could it be that I am logging into Project Server as a
resource, while being a domain authenitcated user on a
Win2k box.
Note: I log into Project Server as a project manager,
whose account is set up to log into Project Server using
domain authentication.
Please advise...I am looking forward to hearing from you.

To Deepu: My previous problem got solved.
GPO settings, which applied to my account, did not allow
pass through authentication from inside IE.

Thank you,

Ruben

You need to go into your project plan and republish your
assignments and refresh PWA.

This should do it, as I had the same problem this week.

Ruben --

You were SO CLOSE to having solved the problem yourself! Good try, my
friend!!

Here's how to fix the problem:

1. Log into PWA with Administrator permissions
2. Click the Admin menu
3. Click the "Customize Microsoft Project Web Access" link
4. Click the "Tracking settings" link in the sidepane, if necessary
5. Select the "Actual work done and work remaining" option
6. Click the Save Changes button
7. Open Microsoft Project 2002 and log into Project Server
8. Open the project in question
9. Click Tools - Customize - Published Fields
10. Make sure that the "Use the default method set on Microsoft Project
Server" option IS selected and then click OK
11. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments and then click OK

Steps 1-6 will specify that you want your team members to enter Actual Work
and Remaining Work values in the task sheet portion of the Tasks page.
Steps 9-10 will make sure that this project is using your default method of
entering actuals, which is Actual Work and Remaining Work. Step 11 will
"push" the new method of tracking out to the Tasks page for each resource in
this project.

If you want to GUARANTEE that no one can mess up your company's method of
tracking actuals (Actual Work and Remaining Work), then you should select
the "Force project managers to use the progress reporting method specified
above for all projects" in the Tracking Settings page in PWA. Hope this
helps.
