In Visio 2007 I created a rounded square and inserted an * into it. How can I
center the * in the current shape of the rounded square?

Thanks for looking.

How accurately do you want the * centered?
Look at the shape format
menu Format -> text

Ensure the margins are equal all round, as well as the indentation,
there are many settings to play around with.
However, the major problem with getting an * exactly centered is more
to do with the particulars of the font you are using and how hight
above the font base the character has been set. It will be different
for different fonts and will also depend upon the font size you have
selected.
If there is a connection point visible in the centre of the shape then
you can align the * to that, otherwise you can create a connection
point in the middle of the shape.
You may need to adjust the shape text margins to get the exact
centering you require.

Or ...
create an image of an * and add that image to the shape, that will
then be centered.

Do you know how to use the "text block tool"?
It will allow you to easily center any text that is associated with a
shape. The text block tool is located in the drop down below the text
tool. Read about it in the help, it is very useful!!!

If you wanted to hide a tool I can't imagine a better place or manner
in which to do so.
There are several other tools that I've never got around to
investigating, I've seen them in the customise toolbar options, all
I've got to do some day is find out where they are and what they do.

If you have not come across thoses other tools, then they must be rare. When
you do start investigating those other tools you should start a thread for
each tool to see who uses it and if they really understand the tool.

Good idea, John. I shall do that.
