assigning tasks to a group

Can I assign a task/tasks to a group of technicians and have project
allocate them automatically based on which are free? So if I have 30
PC installs to do and 3 technicians free it assigns them to the task
and divides the time to complete by 3.

Thanks

Hi,

Yes and no.
Project SERVER has this functionality ("Substitute Resources" but the
desktop versions (Standard and Professional) don't.
Hope this helps,

Thanks for the heads up on that one. Seems a pretty fundamental
functionality to have as I need it and I'm not doing anything I would
consider beyond beginner level.

Oh well.

Hi Chris,

You can create a generic resource - call the resource Technicians and give a
Max Units of 300% (3 people). You can now assign Technicians to all the
tasks, and levelling will prevent more than 3 working at any one time.
However, you cannot then assign one or any of them by name as well. It's an
either/or situation.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
