Assignment Owner Help...

Hi, I am trying to deploy a MSP 2007 Server environment and I have issues I
can’t solve. I setup an AD sync for all users in our CO and then added one
user to the PM security group. This PM published his project file to the
server but all his resources did not have tasks or notification of tasks. The
PM got all task notifications and task assignments.

For some reason the users that sync from AD have nothing for Default
Assignment Owner but users I created manually have their self as the Default
Assignment Owner. I had to manually go through all 3000 users to set them as
their own Default Assignment Owner.

I assumed this would correct the problem but the PM is still listed as the
Assignment Owner for all tasks and I am not able to change this because it’s
grayed out. (I am an Administrator)

I deleted the project from the server in hopes that republishing would
correct the problem. Same problem, the publisher is the Assignment owner for
all tasks even though each resource is their own Default Assignment Owner.

I deleted the project file from the server again and tried to work from the
file locally to remove all the Assignment owners (The PM) but they are grayed
out even on the local file so I can’t make anyone but the PM, Project
publisher the Assignment Owner for all tasks.

If I create a new project file myself it till make all resources their own
Assignment Owner.

So you ask why not just go back to the originally published file and
republish it. Well that file was published to the server and lots of
information entered before it was realized they the PM owned all the tasks.
It was then saved off the server after all resources were made their own
Assignment Owner but now I can’t find a way to remove the PM as the
Assignment Owner.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am losing my hair by the min.

Another question,

The next deployment will be an instance with 5000+ users. I dont want to
manually correct all these accounts after I sync with AD to fix the
Assignment owner, any options?

The change you made will affect only new projects going forward. The PM
needs to change the assignment owners at the assignment level in the
project.

I believe this will be fixed in SP1 as it's a major PITA and many of us have
made a lot of noise about it to the product team.

Thank you very much for the reply Gary.

Sorry but i am still a bit unclear how to correct the project Assignment
Owner in the plan? When you say change the assignment owners at the
assignment level, do you mean remove the resoource and re-add them for all
the task assignments in the project plan?

Thank you again for the assistance Gary.

Jay:

If you have one resource per task, you can simply insert the assignment
owner field in the Gantt Chart view. If you have more than one resource per
task, do this in the Task Usage view. Then set the assignment owner for each
assignment or task. I suppose removing the resources from the tasks and then
adding them back would work, but this is a big hassle and may change your
durations in the process.

Hi Gary, I tried to insert the assignment owner field in the Gantt Chart view
but he field will not allow me to change it, the drop down arrow to select
another user is gray and will not allow selection. This would certainly save
me time correcting the assignment owner but it will not allow me to make the
change.

Apply the Task Usage or Resource Usage view, insert the Assignment Owner
field, and then I believe you can change it in one of these Views. Hope
this helps.

Thank you very much for the suggestions Dale. It just does not want to be
changed. I am going to go back to the original file before it was published
to the server and ask the PM to make the additions since first published and
we will start again.

Thanks again fo the suggestions.
