Changing assignment owner impacts the plan

Hi all,
I have a situation in my project where one of the resources
doesn't have access to PWA. He is still a resource in my project and
he does the work planned for him, he just can't update the tasks
progress in PWA. What I wanted to do is to set myself as the
Assignment owner for his tasks and update tasks progress instead of
him.

When I was trying to do that I noticed that when I assigned myself
as the assignment owner for some of his tasks I got a message about
scheduling conflict displayed by MS Project. For me that would mean
that changing the Assignment owner does some rescheduling. Is it
Assignment owner or Task Resource who is used in the planning by MS
Project?

Best regards

In Microsoft Project, a "scheduling conflict" has nothing to do with the
resource assigned to the task or the Assignment Owner for the task. A
"scheduling conflict" is the result of missing a hard constraint date, such
as a Finish No Later Than or Must Finish On constraint. Hope this helps.

Hi again,
yes, I understand that but what struck me is that I get these
messages immediately after I apply the change of Assignment Owner.
This means for me that this change triggers something in the Project
that results in the message - in that case that would mean that a hard
contraint date was met before the change but can no longer be met
after the change and thus my question. Isn't it the Task Resource's
calendar/availability that is used in those calculations?

I have always (but maybe wrongly) assumed that Assignment Owner is
"transparent" from the planning perspective and that his/her
availability is not taken into consideration while planning. Have I
been wrong?

I have not seen the behavior you describe, but I do not doubt what you say.
If what you are seeing is true, then you may have uncovered an unkown bug in
Project Server 2007. The working calendar of the resource(s) assigned to
the task is what governs the task schedule, and not the working calendar of
the Assignment Owner. So, I'm puzzled at what you are seeing. Perhaps
someone else has seen this or might want to share some of their own insight
with you.
