Auto update of date

When I open an old document in Word 2002, the date is changed to the current date. How do I change this so the origional date remains on the document. Dave

Dave,

Select the date, right click and toggle field codes. Change { DATE } to {
CREATEDATE }. Don't delete the existing { }. If you do, they are
reentered using CTRL+F9
