baseline cost is 0 in project server data analysis

The Baseline cost in Project server Data analysis is always coming up as 0
eventhough in Project professional it is showing otherwise. I have rebuilt
the cube and tried resetting the naselines using Tools -> Tracking ->
setbasline. Can some one tell me if this is a bug or help me with a solution
to this issue.

Have you actually published your project using File - Publish? Has your
OLAP cube rebuilt since you published the project? Let us know. Also, in
the future, please tell us which version of Project Server you are using.
2002, 2003, or 2007? From your Tools - Tracking - Set Baseline description,
I assume you are using Project Server 2007.

Hi Dale,

Thank you for your reply. Yes I have published the project using File _>
Publish. I have also rebuilt the cube since then. We are using Project server
2007 sp1 and also using Project Professional 2007.

I should have asked the obvious question my first response. If you open
several projects individually, click Tools - Tracking - Set Baseline, do you
see a "Last Saved on" date in the pick list at the top for the Baseline set
of fields? The point I am driving at is to determine whether your PMs are
actually saving a baseline in the Baseline set of fields, as opposed to one
of the other ten sets of fields (Baseline1 to Baseline10). Let us know what
you find.

Hi Dale,

I have checked this aswell. They are entering Data to the baseline and not
baseline1-10.

Well, I'm fresh out of ideas. Perhaps someone else in the newsgroup has an
idea for you. Sorry.

Also, just to make sure... Is the Data Analysis view you are using looking
at the correct Data Analysis Cube?

Also, can you insert the baseline cost value in a project center view and
see the data there?

Thanks, Ben.

I am experiencing the same problem for some of my projects in the
Project Server 2007 system. The baseline work hours appear in the
Draft, Published, and Reporting databases, but not in the OLAP cube
(MSP_Project_Timesheet). I am working with Microsoft Support on the
issue now.

Had you any answer from MS support ?
I'm experiencing the same problem too.
Baseline Costs and Budgets are always 0 in OLAP cubes while they are right
in Project Center.
Looking at Reporting DB, using a query like
select sum(AssignmentBudgetCost) from MSP_EpmAssignmentByDay_UserView
I see the right data.

Only the OLAP cubes seem to lose the data !!

Is there any fix ?

Thanks,
Patrizio

Sorry, I was wrong in my previous post.
The exact query should be:
select sum(AssignmentBaseline0Cost) from MSP_EpmAssignmentByDay_UserView
and the data returned for cost baseline data is always 0.

I think that the issue is related to the publishing process that doesn't
update the Reporting database, but there's no error in Project Queue...

Hi Patrizio

Is this problem to do with baseline costs or baseline work or both?
If costs, do you have a problem only with baseline cost data or is
there also a problem for forecast cost data?
If cost, is the problem related to resource type e.g. work, cost or
material? / budget or non budget?
if cost, are you using multiple cost tables for work type resources?

Note cost resources do misbehave but not just for baseline data.

regards

Mike

Answers in line with questions:

Baseline COSTS, i don't know about work, i will check.
If costs, do you have a problem only with baseline cost data or is

The problem is only for BASELINE cost data.
If cost, is the problem related to resource type e.g. work, cost or
material? / budget or non budget?
The problem is related to COST and BUDGET type resources.
if cost, are you using multiple cost tables for work type resources? No, only one cost table.
Note cost resources do misbehave but not just for baseline data.
??? what do you mean exaclty ???

Thanks for your help.

EVMS doesn't work with Cost/Budget Resources. Jim Aksel posted a good explanation
of this a couple of months ago.

SP2 is coming out this week and is supposed to have significant fixes for
cost resource usage. Don't know if it will affect EVMS with cost resources
- as I am not sure if that is a bug or a feature (kind of depends on your
perspective, I guess). There's a couple of Webinars coming up in the next
week or so that should discuss the issue.

Could you please give me the link to this post ?

Anyway, EVM is not in my actual needs...
I just need to save baseline budget costs, to track quarterly budget
revisions.

Project allows to do that on Draft and Published databases, only the
reporting db seems to lose data...

Patrizio.

Nothing specific except that all of the SP2 publicly released information
prominently mentions improvements to Cost Resource handling. What those
specific improvements are, and whether or not they consist of the ones already
released in the IU will be revealed in the next couple of days I suppose.

I have my fingers crossed, but you asking this question does dampen my optimism
somewhat.
