basline and earned value analysis

What is the impact to the Earned Value Analysis if :

1) You baseline the plan, start tracking the plan, add more task items as
you go and add different task items to the plan and baseline for several
iterations. I assume the task items not in the original baseline get added
to the baseline instead of re-setting the entire baseline. Any impact to
earned value reports in this case?

2) What if you delete a bunch of task items that have been baselined. Of
the deleted task items, some of those hours will get added to other existing
task items, but some of those hours will not. Again, what impact does this
have on Earned Value reporting?

Thanks,
Joe

Basically, what you describe will mess up your tracking against your
original baseline. However, if they are approved changes then one would
expect that resetting the baseline would be approved as well. In that case,
create a new baseline (Project 2002 and later allow 11 baselines) and use
that to track against. You can look back at the original baseline, but
realize that it no longer applies.

Joe - for both the cases the EV is impacted. I am having the exact issue and
the SPI shows <1, if you remomove the tasks and it is >1 if you add tasks

Thanks

Is it really an issue? You would understand that if you have changed your
plan, you can no longer make a meaningful comparison against the original
plan.
