lthebuilder,
The Calendar view is only useful for projects that a very limited number
of tasks in any given calendar time. It sounds like that is not the case
for your file. In my opinion the Calendar view is essentially worthless
but some users seem to love it, I guess because they are used to seeing
activities on a calendar.

The only "fix" I can suggest is to either not use the Calendar view (the
Gantt Chart view is much more useful for managing a project), or reduce
the number of tasks that occur in a given calendar period. One way to do
that is by developing a filter to isolate a select set of tasks during
the calendar period.

thanks john,
i build houses, but used to manage software projects (back in the dark
ages)... am frankly shocked at how poor the microsoft project product is;
i used it 15 years ago ... was decent when everyone that used it was a
techie... bought it to manage our houses and am trying to work through the
kinks before handing over to our superintendents and it is a bear to work
with ..
this product should not be sold to 'regular' users (imo) as it is not very
functional for the non-techie ...
any ideas of software that might work better? need something simple, not
web based (can't afford) and basically need to track a schedule and roll up
all houses on master plan...
any ideas would be great
many thanks,
leah

Leah,
Project is not for casual users. Despite the user friendly advertising
you may see on Microsoft's webpages for Project, it is probably the most
difficult Office application to learn and master. However, it does NOT
take a "techie-type" to learn Project - it takes training and hands on
use over a period of time - but then, so will any other project
management application.

I'm sure there are application out there that are free and will do
simple scheduling. Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations other
than to do a web search and see what you can find.
