Can a Project schedule be converted to a pdf file?

If so, does it require 3rd party software? Though the need is specific it is
only used 2-4 times per year so price is also an issue.

Adobe Acrobat will allow you to "print" anything to a PDF file using the
Distiller pseudo-printer.

I don't know whether there are free alternatives; if there are, they can
likely be found by doing a web search.

I use pdf factory (google it). It installs and operates perfectly. Runs as
a virtual printer.

There's a free trial version if you don't mind the small banner at the
bottom of each page.
