can a value list have a counter running?

hi,
i am tryin to make a value list with a list of Project Numbers. i was
wondering if i cud have a drop down menu for the list of project numbers so
that for every new project the very 1st project number can be selected by the
Job opener (ONLY 1 person does this and sends the project out to the specific
project manager that she sees fit for the job) and add a new project and
after that number has been selected, that number is "popped off" the list and
the next one is the 1st one for a new project. i know it is possible to
import the value list, i was wondering if any 1 has tried this. this list
will be stored on a central server on the company and so will be updated
constantly by the Job Opener when she opens a job in MS PRoject 2003. again,
i think the question is a little confusing, please post a comment and i can
further clarify. thanx in advance.

I don't think this is easily possible using the value lists. However, with
some programming you could have a database which doles out unique sequential
numbers. You would have to write some code to do this, but it would not be
too difficult.

You could do it as simply as having a shared text file. Your macro would
open the file, read the last line and then add one to it, write a new line
with the new number, then close and save the file. It should be trivial for
a software engineering student. Look at my macro webpage to see some
examples of working with external files.

By the way, using phrases like "u cud mayb" makes you seem illiterate. Maybe
that is not what you intended, but that is the result you have achieved.

I didn't call you illiterate. I was just pointing out that your choice of
spelling could lead one to that conclusion. I find it mildly humorous.
