Can I change a PDF to a Publisher File to make changes?

M

Mike Koewler

Yes, I know.

No, you can't. The most you might be able to do is copy/paste text, then
edit.

An FYI - this question or something very similar has been asked and
answered three times so far today. But don't despair, there are still
three hours before the clock strikes 12, so it's likely a couple more
people will ask the same thing. :-(

If you own Adobe Acrobat 6 Pro (not the reader) you can
make some minor text changes to a PDF.

You cannot import a PDF into Publisher even without having it editable,
but you can (with the full version of Acrobat) save it as a file format
that can be imported (but cannot be edited). To import it and have it be
editable is not possible at all.

To edit PDF requires PDF editing software that costs several times what
the full version of Acrobat itself costs. Sometimes Adobe Illustrator or
Corel Draw or Adobe Indesign can be used--but this does not always work
well (loss of font information, etc.)

Mac,

Editing a pdf file in Publisher???

Depending on what needs to be done, even some half-way complicated
things can be done.

Start with the full version of Acrobat. Photographs can be touched up
(and I think, replaced) using PhotoShop. Lines of text can be edited,
including font attributes, but I haven't found much of a way to adjust
spacing or justification, if that is important.

Another way is to export the file as an image, which can be placed in
Pub. One can then place images or text boxes over the image, so that a
line that reads: Christmas Sale Starts Sunday can be changed to Yuletide
Sale Starts Wednesday, for instance.

However, I have found that if big changes are needed, it is better off
to recreate the file from scratch. One customer, a grocery store, will
run a full page on occasion. Their ad agency sends me six-eight pdf
files and I need to take one or two things off each page. For these
kinds of tasks, Acrobat and PhotoShop are priceless!

Merry Christmas,

Mike

Hi, you can always convert your document to a Word by using the Save As
command and change the Save as type (drop down arrow at the bottom of the
dialog page) and choose Microsoft Word document; import into Publisher. It
works.

I don't think it's as simple as all of that. If you have a .pdf file, I
don't think saving it as a Word file is an option. I have Acrobat Standard
5.0 loaded on my system so I'm never completely sure what I can/can't do
because of software I have installed. I can tell you that Adobe Reader 6.0
does not have a Save As function.

Hi, you are right with Adobe Reader 6.0 you cannot convert document. I use
Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and yes it is possible to convert because I do it. The
Save As command is on the File menu. If you still cannot e-mail your .pdf

I kind of doubt that the OP has Acrobat. Most individuals (as opposed to
businesses) have no need to spend >$250 for software like that.

What does OP stand for? Who is asking to spend $250 for this very nice Adobe
Acrobat software? You said to me that you already have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 so
you should be able to do it, and it is as simple easy as I said to you.
File/Save As, send me an e-mail: (e-mail address removed) and I will reply to you
with a sample of a print screen (Adobe Save As dialog box). Now if you have
pictures in your pdf documents then look at this link, Adobe tutorial:
http://studio.adobe.com/us/tips/tip.jsp?p=1&id=632&xml=acr6ppimage
You will see the drop down menu with the option "Microsoft Word document"
(doc).
One last question: What do you want to buy with $250? Certainly not the
Adobe Acrobat software.

Okay - seems like you got a few things confused.

(1) OP means Original Poster. Twasn't me.
(2) The original poster probably doesn't have Acrobat, which retails for
$299 from Adobe.
(3) If I had a .pdf that I wanted to edit, I wouldn't do it that way because
I have other software that would allow me to do it and keep the formatting.
But that's me, not the OP.

It can get to be confusing who is responding to whom depending on how you
access the newsgroup.

You can always convert your PDF document to a Word document then to a
Publisher document. You need the Adobe Acrobat program, if you do not, you
can always have a trial version and convert your document.
Once you have it, open the Save As dialog box and change the file type (drop
down arrow at the bottom of the Save As dialog box) and choose Microsoft Word
document (doc.). It works.

I guess you are talking the full version of Acrobat 6.0 or later,
because this option is not available in 5.0.

I would also like to know the site where I can download a trial version
of Acrobat that allows these options. It would be worth knowing.

Merry Christmas!

Hi, it is not available with the Adobe reader version, but it is available
with the full version of Adobe Acrobat 5. and up. The following link will
explain to how to save a picture which is in an Acrobat document, you will
also see the option Microsoft Word document (doc.), from the drop down menu
at the bottom of the dialog box (file of type):

Saving as a .doc is an iffy business. Sometimes the text is editable, some documents
come over strictly as images, this is true of many Publisher documents.

A

Assia

If your entire document is mostly made of pictures then you can save only the
pictures so you can insert them in Publisher. To do that, see if you have
the picture task button on the task toolbar then you will be able to export
all the pictures at once, otherwise you can select the pictures one at a time
using the select picture button on the basic toolbar, then right click the
picture and choose "save picture as" command. If you want you can e-mail me
your document at (e-mail address removed) and I will do it then e-mail you back the
pictures.
Assia

M

Mary Sauer

Hey Assia, I know how to do this, I was just commenting on the .doc conversion. Some
conversions do well, others suck...
