Can I have my Entourage files located on an external drive?

Hello, folks. Sorry if this is an FAQ-ish question, but I couldn't
find an answer that looked reasonable. My eMac had to go into the shop
last week (I just got it back), and while it was there I realized that
eleven year's worth of client data and emails were sitting on the shelf
at CompUSA. Now, I'm not concerned that the repair guys at CompUSA are
drooling over five year-old financials, but this just isn't a good
situation. I DO have backups, of course; but that's not the point.
What I need to do is put my data and user files on an external LACIE
drive I just bought. I'd also like to do this with my Entourage Mail
and Project folders. In other words, I want to take them off my
startup drive and put them on the external drive and still make them
the "live" folders that the app uses. Again, this isn't a backup
issue, but the placement of live folders.

I was hoping Entourage had something like Word's "File Locations"
preference menu, but unless I'm missing it, it doesn't.

Can anyone tell me how to move the mail and project center folders to
the external drive?

Many thanks in advance,
Eric

Simply move the Microsoft User Data folder from your documents folder to the
external disk. Replace it with an alias pointing top the MUD on the external
disk. You must make sure that the name remains exactly the same - 'Microsoft
User Data'
