Can I still instal Office 97?

R

Roy

I recently had to reformat my hard disk. So have to reinstal all my programmes.

I am having trouble with the Office 97. I expect it is because it is so old.
:) Is there any way I can get around this, or do I need to buy a newer
version.

Thanks,

It should install with no problems. Do you have SP2 installed? If so,
remove SP2, install Office 97 and then go to the MS website and get all
the updates to Office 97 and install them. After all the updates are
done you can re-install SP2 and all will be well.

If that's NOT the problem please repost with more information, what
trouble are you having? Are there any error messages?

You should NOT need to buy a newer version.

Sorry, that did not work. However, I went back to the shop I purchased it
from and believe I have the answer. Unfortunately, I do not know if there is
anything I can do about it.

I have an OEM licence for the product. About two years ago I had probelems
and upgraded the CPU, files were copied to the new PC, which meant we did not
have a problem. Now the hard disc has been reformated we have a problem.

I find this most surprising as the because the certificate says "For
distribution only with new PC hardware". Not the life of the the licence is
limited to that of the hardware product. There does not seem to be any other
indication (at least on the material I currently have) that the licence is
restricted in any way.......You just need to know what the OEM in the product
ID means.

Is there anything that can be done, or do we just have to lump it.

Gratefully,

Roy

I don't think that's your problem. Office 97 does not require
activation and the OEM version should install with no problem even if
the installation is illegal (I don't think it is since if I understand
correctly you've got the same motherboard, same harddrive and same
case).

So start over again and tell us exactly what happens as you try to
install it and any error messages that might come up.
