Can you convert a text box to just text?

I need to get my document to be just text. I started with a link to excel
and got the data I needed. I then broke the link but I'm still left with a
text box. Is there any way to get rid of the text box and retain the
information and formatting that's there?

Convert it to a frame, then remove the frame. If, as is likely, what you're
seeing is actually a table, use Table | Convert | Table to Text.
