Cannot "hide" deleted task from "My Tasks" view in PWA

I have created a new task via the PWA interface, and then delegated it
to another team member (and made myself the lead on that task). I
then checked-out the mpp file using MS Project client, deleted that
task and published the changes back to the server. After doing that,
I was expecting to no longer see the deleted task in the "My Tasks"
view in PWA, but it is still there (it is gone from the "Projects"
view though). When I click on "Hide" for that task, PWA gives me the
following error:
"
You cannot hide this task for one of the following reasons:
* It is a delegated task that you are the lead for [true]
* It is a summary task with existing subtasks [not true]
* It is a nonproject time task defined by the server administrator
[not true]
* It is a task transferred from Outlook [Not true]
"
I can't find how to get rid of this deleted task in the "My Tasks"
view in PWA. It should not show there anymore. Is this an MS Project
Server 2003 bug, or would anybody know how to fix that? Thanks!

Hi

If you click on "Hide" for that task and the task does not disappear, you can get rid of this task by deleting all your tasks and republish them again

For deleting all of your tasks you should enter to the PWA as Admin>Clean Up the microsoft project server database >> select in the task option: Ever Sent , and in the delete option choose the resource name that you want to delete hi
tasks > Delete

Open the MPP file > select the tasks of the resource that you deleted> Collaborate > Publish >Republish Assignments
overwrite actual work entered by resources (if nessesery)>O

Hope this will help Yo

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the steps that you describe below,
and unfortunately this did not remove that one no-longer-valid task
that I had delegated to another team member before deleting it. All
the other tasks were successfully removed from my Tasks view and then
republished, but that one problematic phantom task did not go away...
Have you tried this particular situation yourself with MS Project
Server 2003? I am wondering if this is a bug, or a corruption of the
database. Thanks...

That "phantom task" is also called a "delegation copy"... The question
is how can delegation copies be removed from the view? The Admin
Cleanup function does not appear to remove them unfortunately...

As far as I understand, when the PM deletes tasks in MS Project, they
are still visible in the PWA task lists, with a black "X" in front of
them. The team members then have to "Hide" them manually to remove
them from their task lists. I wish there was a way to automate that
in PWA but I couldn't find it.
As far as deleting task assignments, the best way I know is to use the
Admin features in PWA, but that does not delete delegation copies
which refer to non-deleted task assignments.

I'm facing a similar problem, except the tasks I want to delete were
not delegated; they were simply deleted by the PM from the project
(who then created new tasks and other assignments for the
resource).

Didn't deleting the task assignments via PWA as you did delete valid
assignments as well as the bad ones? I'd hate to have to tell most of
my PMs to republish all their projects because I deleted valid
assignments.

Thanks.

Well Dale I think I figured out what was causing this problem.
Basically PWA was refusing to hide these delegation copies because the
tasks assignments were still in the database, even though the tasks
themselves were deleted. So I went into the Admin section and deleted
all of the task assignments for these delegees, and the delegation
copies magically went away, without even having to hide them. Voila!
