Cannot Launch c:\windows\system32\msiexec.exe

This is the error that pops up after loading the Office2000 CD on mynew
computer.
Worked fine on old computer, but it's kaput.

The new PC came with trial version of Office2003, which I removed.

Any ideas? Thank you.

good question. I'm not positive, but I think not. I purchased Office2000
separately.

by the way, I did a search on "msiexec.exe" and found it in 3 different
places:

c:\windows\Prefetch
c:\windows\system32
c:\windows\software distribution

if that is of any help. Also, the Windows Installer Version Number on this
troublesome file is:

V 3.01.4000.1823
