Cannot print

I have XP Pro with Picture It Publisher 2001. My printer is an HP7850. When I
attempt to print a project, I receive the MS message "program has encountered
a problem and needs to close" There appears to be no issue with the printer,
but I have yet to be able to print any project. Can anyone lend a suggestion?
