Cannot Type Text Into Publisher

K

Kevin Saxton

Hi there . . . hope someone can help me . . . I'm feeling
rather aggravated with the following problem:

I'm using Publisher 2000 (came w/ Office 2000 which came
with our PC), we upgraded to XP Home last winter, and
Tuesday night (8/26) we began to experience the following
problem with Publisher:

Whenever we try to type or paste any text (either in a
new text box or into a previously saved Publisher
document) we get an error that simply says "Publisher
cannot complete the operation" with "OK" as the only
option.

We are not experiencing difficulty entering text into any
other program, and we don't seem to be experiencing any
other problem (that we've noticed) in Publisher. This
happens in both documents we've already created and in
completely new documents.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Publisher,
checked for memory problems, and looked in the Knowledge
Base but can't seem to find any answer or anyone else who
is experiencing the same problem.

Please reply to me at (e-mail address removed)

Thanks

Kevin Saxton

Kevin if you are to dammed lazy to come and look for your reply you will not
get one.

Rude, ignorant and poorly bred people like you need a tune-up and some
serious education in decorum.

Oh yes, an anger management course should also be on top of your list.

Update your printer driver. Open Publisher in safe mode or disable your printer
before opening Publisher, if it works then you will know your driver is causing your
problem. Publisher is more sensitive to printer malfunctions than other Office
products.

Thanks for your help . . . I figured out the problem. I
discovered last night I was also having difficulty with
Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 . . . a file was corrupted or
missing . . . once I reinstalled it and got it working,
Publisher works fine now. I have no idea why, but I'm
not sure that I care at the moment. :)

My, my, aren't we friendly?

It's not a matter of being lazy, as I have seen your
response (which means I did come to look for it, which
demonstrates that I'm not too lazy to come look, in case
you are as dense as you are rude), but rather that an e-
mail response would get to me more quickly than checking
the board. Think of it as more convenient.

You thought I was rude and ignorant? Well, I did include
all the information you requested (when you berated
another poster for not including all of it), and my tone
was infinitely more civil than yours.

Poorly bred? This ticks you off so much that you feel
the need to insult my family? C'mon, pal. Get a grip!

Education in decorum? If it's "so not done" to request a
reply by e-mail, why is it an option, and more
importantly, why did I receive some responses from
persons FAR kinder than you? Perhaps you are just too
lazy to scroll your mouse from "post reply" to "reply e-
mail."

As for you, I'll take your advice and consider an "anger
management course," I could stand to develop some more
patience, particularly with inanimate objects.

However, I suggest that you look into one too, as a
request as simple as mine should not turn you into the
angry poster that became. I hope you were just having a
bad day, and that this isn't your normal demeanor,
otherwise I feel sorry for you and those who have to live
and work with you.

Kevin,

The main purpose for these newsgroups is to share information. There may be
someone who is having the same issues you have and is not confident enough
to post a question. I've learned many things to avoid/try by reading posts
that I didn't send.

I'm not defending the behavior of some of the readers, just explaining why
it's done publicly rather than privately.

Kevin,

David can be as welcome as a porcupine in a balloon factory, and he
certainly will not be mistaken as an elderly statesman in charge of
making friends.

That aside, it is considered rude to ask for a private reply to a
general message asking for help. The idea is more people will benefit if
they read the solution, though in this NG, I don't think new posters
download more than the last one header. :-(

Mike did you know that I wrote the Dale Carnegie books "Winning Friends and
Influencing People".
I just sold the rights on to my cobber mate Dale as a favour LOL
Now I am head of the institute.

You need to treat ignorant failed poorly educated and bred fools in the same
manner so they understand.

David,

I saw the book at Borders today. But they changed the title just a bit
(it was your book, because it had your mug on the first page) to "How
NOT To Win Friends and Influence People" It had a subtitle also: "Smart
People Can Be Smart Alecks."

Try to be nicer - at least to those who may not know better. Remember
what your mom should have taught you - you'll catch more bees with honey
than you will with vinegar. Of course, I like to kill bees - I hate them
with a passion.
