can't add words to dictionary

Hello,

I am using Outlook 2007. I have a custom dictionary to use and I have
"suggest from main dictionary only" unchecked. How do I get the spell
checker to allow me to add a word to the dictionary?

What dictionary do you have defined under custom dictionaries?

If you mean the file name, it is "Custom.dic" in "C:\Documents and
Settings\Bob Brannon\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof", all languages, and
set to default (this one has words listed from my previous version of
MSOffice and is longer). I also have "Custom.dic" in "C:\Documents and
Settings\Bob Brannon\Application Data\Microsoft\UProof", all languages, and
not set to default.

The boxes for both are checked, but unchecking one doesn't help either.

Also, to clarify, the "Add to Dictionary" button is grayed out.

Something else just came to mind. I installed Spell Checker For OE 2.1,
because after installing Office 2007, the spell checker was using French in
OE. Could this have anything to do with the problem? If so, I could
unintsall Spell Checker For OE 2.1 but then how could I fix the spell
checker for OE(I use it for newsgroups like this one)? Spell Checker For OE
2.1 was the suggested fix for the problem when I posted on the OE newsgroup.

I was only trying to add words to my CUSTOM.dic file but it was grayed out.
My keyboard language is US but the language flagged for my CUSTOM.dic was
English (Canada).

I changed my CUSTOM.dic language to all languages and then my "Add to
Dictionary" option became available.

Not sure if this helps with your dilema.

Actually mine was already set that way. I didn't hear back on this so tried
some things and found that my dic file must have been corrupt. I copied the
words to new file, deleted the custom.dic file, and that took care of the
problem.
