can't copy my work on a cd

i can't make a back-up of my work when i try to copy to a my cd an
error-incorrect function- comes up. is this a setting on office. my cd-writer
is working correctly

That's a tough question to answer. Which CD burning software are you using
(version as well as brand)? What steps are you taking? And how do you know
that your burner is working okay?

Sounds like yo're trying to save your work directly to a CD from Office
programs. Due to the "failsafe" way MS Office saves documents, saving on
"write once" media doesn't work well. (Even CDRW is "Write once" in this
respect.)

Solution: Save your documents to hard disk (or flash storage, or any
other truly random access storage), and copy from there to the CD (using
your burning software, or use the "drag to disc" function you get on
some burning software (a functionality which is embedded in WinXP).
