Can't install Office 2007 Pro

D

drumz

Running Vista Home Premium 2GB RAM, 40GB Free Space.
I just bought O2007Pro in its nice fancy box. I tried the support route but
it wants a product ID but because it hasn't installed and none of the numbers
on the box work I can't get support without paying - THANKS M$, so hopefully
someone can here can offer some guidance.
I had been running 2003 and then installed 2010 Beta and had no problems. So
I uninstalled 2010 and now when I try to install 2007 I get the error:
Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have
appropriate permissions to access the item.
So I logged on as administrator but got the same error.
So does anyone know how I can get support? I'm contacting Amazon where I
bought it tomorrow but was hoping it was just a glitch from Office 2010 Beta.
Thanks

Why did you install Ofice 2010 Beta on your main computer when Microsoft
explicitly advises against doing this?

Why did you install two versions of Office on the same computer, when
Microsoft explicitly recommends not doing this?

Were you aware that one of the risks of using Beta software is that it may
not uninstall cleanly?

You may be able to successfully install Office 2007 if you can cleanly
uninstall both Office 2010 Beta and Office 2003. Otherwise, a laborious and
risky manual install will be needed.

I'm not sure this will do anything for you, but have you looked into the
Folder Options (Windows Explorer, TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW) and selected
Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Perhaps the folder that can't be accessed is a hidden one that is refusing
to expose itself to the Installer. It seems like the Installer should be
able to see hidden folders because it should need to make adjustments to
them, but maybe if the Show Hidden is not selected, then those locations
can't be opened.

Just a thought ...

I was able to re-install Office 2003 so that tells me it's the disks/package
I bought. And I was unable to install on a machine that has never had Office
on it.
So thanks for being a M$ toadie. I should know better than to come to this
site for assistance since all you get is brow beating.
THANKS FOR JUST ABOUT NOTHING.

This is clearly an issue with another version of Office still being installed. Did
you uninstall the Trial and the Activation Assistant completely. I doubt it. Also
some parts of Office 2003 is still resident. Clean out the computer from all Office
installs and then install the Office 2007

Yes, I can see all files. I just tried it on an XP machine and it
won;tinstall but then tried it on a Win7 machine and bingo, it will install.
I aborted though because I need to run it on my Vista box. Contacted the
seller.
Thanks for your help.

Then why will it install on a Win7 machine that had Office 2010 beta on it?
It will not install on an XPSP2 machine that never had any Office on it. I
think you are wrong but thanks for trying!

I do not think I am wrong. You have some leftovers from the 2010 Beta and or Office
2003. Is Activation Assistant on your system if you do a search?

D

A search doesn't show it but you are right about leftovers because when I
re-installed Office 2003 there was mail in Outlook and all my folders as well.
Can you point me to an article about fully removing Office?
Thanks,

(On the unlikely chance that you're still interested in hearing from me:)

It's not /impossible/ to install another version of Office on a computer
that previously had or currently has Office 2010 Beta...it's just not
/supported/. That means it wasn't designed to work that way, so whether or
not things work out as you planned, you're on your own.

In addition, since Office 2010 is still in Beta, it's not guaranteed to work
properly or at all, which is why Microsoft explicitly says not to install it
on your main computer.

Furthermore, any version of Office can fail to install on any given computer
for a boatload of reasons that have nothing to do with whether or not that
computer previously had some version of Office on it.

All I can do is try and if it doesn't work then I will reformat. I usually do
it once a year anyway so not a big deal.
Thanks,
