can't load a backup pst

Hi,
I have backed up emails into a .pst file from Outlook 2003 (11.5608.5606).
then I have transferred that file onto another computer that has Outlook
2003 SP3 (11.8217.8221). when I try to import this backup I get an error
message telling me that there is no file available.

How did you backup?
How did you transfer?
Within Outlook, File>Open>Data File......browse to this data file, what
exactly happens?

I backed up via File > Import and Export
I tried to restore also via File > Import and Export......
When I try to import the backup.pst (on the desktop) I get the error
message.

Operation failed.
An object could not be found.

That's not the proper method to backup. Copy the original pst-file to make a
backup of it. To restore copy the pst-file back to your hard disk (do not
overwrite any existing pst-files) and reconnect to it by File-> Open->
Outlook Data File...
