can't publish counter was working previously

My component counter stopped showing on website. It has changed to "don't
publish". I can't seemed to get it to publish. I am not real familiar with
how they actually work, so don't know what to check etc. when I go to
"publish selected files" and it opens remote website.

I tried reinstalling frontpage, but that doesn't seem to help. It also
seems it is there for some people who open the page, but every time I change
the page on frontpage it zeros out. I the box to zero is not checked.

Thanks for any help.

In your local web on your machine in FrontPage, open the _private folder.
Right click the pagename.htm.cnt file that matches the page on your site and select "do not
publish"

Close your local web, open the remote web, open the page with the counter and reset the
counter.
Save the page.

I did try that earlier. It didn't seem to work. I did set up the remote
server file again which took care of it not publishing. I have since
discovered it does seem to be working, I just can't get it to show when I
open the site. I am now thinking that it may be internet explorer on my
computer that's the problem. I can see it now when using other programs
(i.e. aol). I did reinstall internet explorer from microsoft, and ran
updates, but that hasn't seemed to help.
