Can't replace file when uploading

B

BAM

Hi - I'm trying to replace (update) my default file, but it keeps going back
to the old one. Even if I delete the old one, and then later replace it with
the new one, it somehow just pops up the old one.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Not exactly sure what you are trying to do. Are you talking about your
home page?

What version FP2003? Windows XP? Vista?

Did you try giving your "page" a different name?

Did you delete it from only the local side and not the server side?

Don't know. I have a page called default.htm which I thought I wasn't using
as a home page, but rather, index.htm

03 XP

I just re-named index to default on the server side. It's back to normal.

Thanks

So your problem is now solved?

Great.

I had same problem (FP2003/XP) and I just resorted to naming my home page
index.htm

LC -- when you publish in FP it wants to name your file index.htm even
though you may want to call it default.htm or default.html. I couldn't find
any way to force it to use my preferred file name. What you end up or your
web server is a file named default.htm AND index.htm. When you type your
www.domain.com it reads the index.htm file and ignores your default.htm
file. If you know of a solution to this that would be great. -- Tom

Maybe I am missing something here, but what would be the reason to name
your home page, default.htm rather than index.htm. Or do you need both?
Couldn't the "default.htm" file have a more specific name for your
purpose...such as photos.htm, etc.

Now that I think of it, a long time ago, I created a web site using html
4.0, it was for a class I took. My site was titled, Mexico. I wanted
the home page to be: mexico.html, but I also wanted a translated
(Spanish language) page identical to the home page. The instructor
suggested, index2.html

In my case, I wanted a home page without all the buttons and automatic stuff
that FP puts in - at one time I knew how work with it, but it was forgotten
long ago. So it seems that I have to rename the files once they are
uploaded, rather than call it the home page within the FP program (if that
makes any sense)

Are you using FrontPage2003?

That is what I am using. I don't have "buttons and automatic stuff" on
my home page.

Yes - 2003. I cannot explain your home page nor mine. I'm just telling you
what happens.

I had a similar problem of 2 home pages with different file names. Problem
was with the ISP. Seems there are 4 choices of file names and extensions,
and what I was using was not what they had programmed into the server. We
settled on what would use and I have never had that problem again.

I understood you to say FP generated buttons and automatic stuff. No
problem.

Good luck ;-)
