Can't update Office 2000

Here's my problem... I have Microsoft Office 2000 Premium (Corporate
Edition) and I'm unable to apply any of the updates to it, as it always
errors out. Trying to install SP3, it complains about *.tmp files in
c:\config.msi\ being altered. Well, I hate to say it, but there's nothing
altering them, as far as I can tell. I *am* running Symantec Antivirus,
but I've disabled the realtime protection for now. I get a similar
complaint when I try to use the autoupdate feature from
office.microsoft.com.

I've tried this on two fresh installs of Office 2000 (well, not 100%
fresh, I uninstalled and reinstalled Office due to some problems I was
having on one system and thought maybe that would help on MY workstation.)
I used Office XP Resource Kit to uninstall Office and it didn't help.

One more thing... I originally posted my plea for help on Friday, Feb
276th. My system was acting wierd this morning (Feb 1st) and I had to
reboot. Now everything is saying service pack 3 in the "help" section.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to update when the updates I
downloaded direct from Microsoft won't work??? HELP!!!

Please CC me at my office: jaldrich (at) covista.com as I have to read
these groups through an SSH tunnel! I'll try to check in here in the next
few days. Any help that y'all can give me would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

As was pointed out earlier this is a newsgroup, no one is going to email you
a personal message. If you want personal service you need to pay Microsoft
and open an incident. What is your problem?

Dear "Friend" -- What the hell is YOUR problem anyway? If you can't be
nice, shut the hell up! We aren't here for a flame war! I was HOPING
someone would be nice enough to at least CC me on any response. I *am*
checking in here, but it's a hell of a lot easier to get an email at work
than it is to read newsgroups, since I don't have access to news, except
here at home, and if I want to read news at work, it's very difficult!
Have you ever tried to use an SSH-tunneled VNC session? It's slow as crap!

So, that being said, if you don't want to be part of the solution, don't
add to the problem! I *AM* checking in here, although I can't sit and
monitor this group and check for new messages every 2 minutes!
