cftmon.exe

I don't always get this error message but, every now & then, when I'm
shutting down my computer, I get one of those error messages with the "End
Now" or "Cancel" options that indicate there was a problem with cftmon.exe.
What I have been able to find out is that it is related to Microsoft Office
but I can't find much else other than that. I'm wondering if this is a
serious problem that I should take care of or if it is a file that I probably
wouldn't use anyway? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please
send any responses to my e-mail address: (e-mail address removed). Thanks.

It is related to Microsoft Office Speech Recognition.

CTFMon.exe (from Answers That Work)

(Microsoft)
CTFMon comes with Microsoft Office XP and Windows XP – it activates the Alternative User
Input Text Input Processor (TIP) and the Microsoft Office XP Language Bar. As long as the
Text Services & Speech are enabled in the Control Panel, this program will force itself
back into your list of background programs.

Recommendation :
Disable “Text Services & Speech” in the Control Panel if you are not using them. Then,
disable CTFMon using Startup Manager. (Note that if you use Word, Excel or PowerPoint to
write in different languages, eg. English and Arabic, then you will be using “Text
Services & Speech” facilities).

The best thing to do with that file is to uninstall it. There are a few
articles on the Microsoft website (http://www.microsoft.com) describing the
steps to do this. Just type in 'CTFMon.exe' in the top search bar & the first
few results that turn up.

Unless, of course, one uses more than one language in Office, yes?
