Change color of bar in Calendar

Joanna

I have about a dozen tasks and am trying to make them distinguished on the
calendar by differentiating colors of them. It appears that color of bars on
calendar task type is dictated by task type under "Bar Style" under "Format".
I have only learned to change task types to "milestone" or "marked" from
"noncritical", which is the default. How can I change task types to
"critical", "summary", or "highlighted"?

Hello Joanna,

Summary tasks are tasks which have subtasks. In the Gantt chart view, if
you click the indent button, you will create a subtask (task you indented)
and a summary task (task above the one you indented.) Whether a task is
critical or not is determined by Project based upon the amount of Total
Slack. You cannot "make" a task critical without changing the schedule.
Highlighted tasks are tasks that have been selected through a highlight
filter (Project > Filtered for > More filters).

The choices for critical and summary change your schedule, so I don't
recommend creating summary and subtasks just for formatting reasons.

As you have discovered, the formatting choices available in the Calendar
view are *very* limited. I'm afraid there is no way to have dozens of
different colored tasks when looking at the Calendar view. You can format
individual tasks in the Gantt chart view and may be able to get the
differences in formats you want.

You don't say why you want to format the bars -- but have you thought about
filtering the Calendar view to only show bars that you want people to focus
on?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
