Change 'Open Office Document' Location?

C

clintonG

By now this question has probably been asked a zillion times but I've never
had to configure Office for my mom before :)
So I hope there is a way to change the location when using 'Open Office
Document' so it will point to her files.

Not exactly sure what you mean, but I'll assume that in Microsoft Word
you want to be able to click the Open button and have the dialog box
point directly to her default file folder?

If that's the case...click Tools > Options > File Location. Click on
Documents and click Modify. Then point the path to whatever default
dir she wants.

If that's not what you mean, then please explain with better details.

Thank you for your comments Dian.
Actually, I am referring to the Open Office Document 'shortcut' that Office
installs into the Start menu when Office is installed. It is easy to use
Word itself to change the location of one's file as you helpfully point out
but changing the location such that one can immediately access their files
from the desktop using the Open Office Document shortcut is what I am
wondering about. There doesn't seem to be a way to do so and as I recall the
Open Office Document window is resizable whereas the window accessible
through Word is not. For an older adult it would be easier to access their
files from the desktop.

Oh, okay. Well I don't see what version of any software you are using,
but other users who tried to do the same thing you are hoping to do
have accomplished this by by resetting the My Documents folder through
the Places Bar adjustments with the addin interface or through the
registry settings. See these articles...

How to customize the Places Bar in Office 2000

More on the Places Bar w/screen shots in this article...

Good luck...
