Changing defaule language does NOT work

Michalina

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Hello,

I want to change the default language of my Ppt presentation to Polish. I go to Tools, Languages, select Polish, click OK - and NOTHING happens.
When go back there, ENGLISH is still selected as the default language.
Anybody has an idea how to change it?
My system language is polish and it is set so in the national settings of Leopard.

This is really very frustrating.
I will appreciate your help a lot

If you're expecting to have the document *translated* from one language to
another I regret to tell you it isn't going to happen.

Language is a formatting attribute primarily for the purpose of the Spelling
& Grammar facility. If you Select content then change the Language that
content will be invisibly tagged as whatever language you chose. That lets
the program know which set of proofing tools to use so that the content will
be checked by the appropriate dictionary. Otherwise, almost everything would
be marked as incorrectly spelled and/or grammatically improper.

Hi I don't expect to translate the document. All I want to do is: select a block of text, choose the language as Polish, select it and then be able to spelcheck it for example.
When I try to set the default language - it is NOT changing to Polish, it remains as English.

OK, no offense intended, but you'd be suprised how many folks *do* expect
the translation to take place.

In order to look a bit more closely, what is your current update level of
both Office & OS X?

Does this happen in new files you create or just in a specific one? If just
the one, did you receive it from another user? What version of PPT created
it? Are there any other details you can supply?

Michalina

Hi
no offence taken :)
the OS is 10.5.7 the office is 2008 - I am nos sure what kind of update you are asking for?
The system updates itself regularly.

Ok I found this about ppt:
2008 for mac version 12.1.9 (090515) last update 12.1.9.

The file was created using my computer, this is happening on every ppt file I create.

You might try and see if removing any custom dictionaries helps to stop the crashing.

According to that crash log, you are using a Polish Speller Checker that is not supported by Microsoft. You might also want to contact the maker of the that software for a solution.
