Changing default "Open File" folder in Word XP

Every time I select "File / Open", the Open File dialog
defaults to the "My Documents" folder. I know that I can
change this to any other given folder (by changing
the "Documents" option in "Tools / Options / File
Locations"), but I would really like to have it default
to the last folder I accessed.

How do I do this?

Open and Save As will default to the last folder accessed after you change
folders (except that Save As always defaults to the folder where the
document resides). If you have Word 2002 or above, you can add folders to
the Places Bar, which is very helpful for accessing folders currently in
frequent use.

Dear Ms. Barnhill,

Thank you for your reply. I just tested the File/Open command in Word
XP, and found that while it works as you described for local folders,
if I open a file in a folder on another computer on my network, then
the next time I use File/Open it defaults to the My Documents folder.

Is there anyway to override this behaviour, so it will continue to
default to the last folder accessed even if it is a remote folder?

I doubt that this is possible - a simple workaround is to add the folder to
the places bar which will give you one click access to a network folder.
