Hi:

I am creating a simple bar chart with all negative numbers (home price declines by city). The horizontal axis has for instance: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, etc. and the vertical axis is 5%, 10%, etc.

1. Since the bars are below the horizontal axis, how do I get the city names to appear above it, as they now are below and are into the chart area?

2. How do I get them to appear on more of a 45 degree angle to the chart (IE: not stacked or vertical.

3. If my highest value is -35 % home value decline - how do I get rid of the -40% vertical value that that is showing in the chart?

TIA - Murman

1- Select the horizontal axis, go to Format, Axis, and in the Ticks section
select High for Axis Label.

2- XL2008 seems to have lost the possibility of previous versions to choose
the angle for the labels. Leave it on Horizontal, and if you narrow the
chart sufficiently and/or increase the font size sufficiently, Excel will
put the labels at 45 degrees if they're long enough. Not an ideal solution I
agree.

3- Select the vertical axis, go to Format, Axis, and in the Scale section
set the minimum value to -0.35
