choice of resources for a task

Hi,

Is there a way to define multiple choices of resources to be used on a
task. For example a task can be done by the day shift person or the
night shift person. can we somehow define the day shift or night shift
in the resource column.

You may name the resources appropriately "Software Developer - Night", you
can also assign resources to groups such as Day or Night. There is a
separate column for Resource Group available.

Hi Sv,

I'm afraid that resource assignment in Project is not an "either or"
choice. If you assign two resources, Project will assign both not one
or the other.

Thank you for the reply, But i am not able to assign a group to a task.
It seems the resource group is a calculated feild, and I cannot name
the group in the resource name.

Also if I am able to assign a group, will work be done by both day and
night shift people if they have non overlapping work times?

Hi JulieS,
I was afraid so too. Do you know anything about the resource wizard
that has the capability of dynamically assigning resources based on
skill sets?? I could not find it in the MSP standalone, is it part of
the enterprise version.

Hi SV,

I'm sorry. I'm not that familiar with Project Server's capabilities but
I believe the answer is no. I *think* the resource substitution wizard
is used to replace Generic resources with named resources based upon a
Resource Outline code, but I suggest posting your specific question to
the server newsgroup.
