this is embarassing! I took a web clip from the microsoft site, put it in my
document, saved it into the appropriate images file... ITS NOT SHOWING UP on
the web page... just that stupid box with the red "X" in it. I've done this
a million times so why isn't it working!? (Using Front Page, XP Pro.)

a.. did you upload the file to your web site server?
b.. When I use graphics on my web pages, I use the full pathname to point to them.
c.. If you didn't do either of these things, you will get the picture placeholder. If you right click on the RED "X" and look at properties, you will see a message to the effect that the file could not be found or words to that effect. So.... upload the file and make sure your reference to the image matches in spelling and case.
d.. Also - go into Windows Explorer and check the folder where you saved it and make sure there is a file extension on the end of the filename! Sometimes when you save images from a web site, you don't always get the file extension (i.e., .jpg, .gif, etc.)

Sounds like you may have done things in the wrong order. When you "put it
in" your document, FrontPage makes the path to the image file in the page,
that is, the path where the image is WHEN you insert it. Afterwards, if you
import it (copy, that is) to your web, a copy will certainly be in the web
where you import it, but the path will not be the same. Check the image URL
to be sure. You can change it to the correct URL in the Image Properties
dialog box.
