Hi,

is there a possibility to close tasks to update for periods also? For
example to close My Tasks Updates for September?
Or do we have to use timesheets instead?
But then we would have the problem that the project manager is not
involved in the approval process....but only the timesheet manager...

Regards
Thomas

PS: Question belongs to Project Server 2007 of course ;)

Hi Thomas,
Unfortunatly this feature is not available ( would be good ). you can
however close tasks so that they cannot be updated anymore under MyTask. This
may give you a workaround

Hi,

thanks for the quick answer from down under! :)

So...i hoped to have a work around to either use task updates or
timesheets...
advantage of tasks is, that the project manager keeps the hand on
bookings on his or her project...instead of timesheets, managed by
timesheet managers, that grant their resources to book on projects...
I am a little bit afraid of using both ...as I only want the team
members to enter their hours "just once" :)

:/

Any news on JustOnce, that could be a solution for this? Have you
tried this?

The reason I am asking, is, that we have connected our project
bookings with SAP...and I definitely need closed periods for
bookings...so this would be timesheets...but we want the project
managers to accept the hours and not the timesheet managers....as they
have to do this in SAP again... one day....

Hallo Thomas,

firstly, no I dont think this is possible in 2010 when it comes to task
update.

Well, you know the difference between the timehseet update and the task
update. the task update actaully updates the task schedule after approval
from the PM. The Timesheet update does not automatically update the task of a
project. Firstly I would check what the business needs. Does a PM need the
task update data to automatically update the actual and remaining work? If so
than you will need to think about task update. I know of the issue with
closing periodical historical data. If this is what the business needs, than
you will need to use the timesheet.

JustOnce seems to be the best solution for auto integration between task and
timesheet at the moment, but not the only one by the way. I personally have
not implemented JustOnce yet, but have heard very good things about it. It
does breach the gap of task and timesheet. Now your environment is even more
complex due to the SAP integration. Make sure that you know what information
comes and goes to SAP, this will influence the decission of JustOnce I can
imagine.

Lastly 2010 does have automated task and timesheet update build in.
Ich hoffe das gibt dir genug information. Falls nicht lass es mich wissen
A big G'day from down under mate :)
