Closing Excel Attachment Also Closes Excel Minimized App

When opening an Excel attachment and closing it, if I have
Excel minimized on my task bar, the application will close
and I lose data. This does not happen when opening a Word
attachment. I can close a Word attachement and my
minimized Word app stays open. I am running W2K, Outlook
2002 and Office XP Professional.
