Comment on office 2007

I have been trying it out and I LOVE IT!!! of course, I'm not sure
where everything is yet, and finding all the new things one can do- I'm
mainly using Word and Publisher, which I am familiar with in the 2000
version.

Just wanted to say for those who are wondering about getting it, unless
maybe the versions inbetween 2000 and 2007 have a lot more I don't know
about, at least try it out and see.

I love how it's so smooth- not sure how to discribe it, but things just
open and change (putting the mouse on the fonts and styles, etc in Word
shows the changes on the page, etc) And I've been spending hours playing
with the formatting and putting watermarks on (different size pictures) in
Word.

One question, I can't find, but probably will at some point is how to
change the default font in Word? (I know this isn't a Word group, but people
here know these things)

The default (new, I never heard of) is fine, I was just wondering how to
change it if I wanted to.

Both Office and Publisher have so much. I love how the Clip Art somes up on
the side, too.

Oh, btw... I don't work for, and don't personally know anyone who works
for microsoft (LOL)

I've been playing around with these programs and at this rate will never
get anything else done around the house...

Carrie,

What a pleasant change from the usual rants.
To change the default font, open Word, then Help. I haven't found an icon to
click, but the F1 key still works. Search on "default font" without the
quotes.

I know, I get tired of the usual microsoft bashing, too. I always say if
it wasn't for them (I credit Bill Gates personally, and going by what I've
heard of him he's someone to admire) I wouldn't be online, and doing what I
love to do with a PC. (actually, I'd probably be doing a lot more housework
(LOL)

I've gotten so I notice the "good stuff" too. Like if I call and talk to
someone in customer service (company, utilities, etc) and they are pleasant
and helpful I always thank them for this. Sometimes they seem surprised,
like "this is my job, why woudln't I be?" But, you know, so many aren't, and
you feel like asking them "why do you have a job where you're supposed to
help people with problems?"

Anyway, I also appreciate this newsgroup (and all the other MS ones,
though this is the main one I've connected with) for being free, with so
many people here always willing to help, and compared to a lot of groups,
mainly NICE. A lot of smart people hang out here, and sometimes hear the
same questions over and over and still are willing to help.

Oh good. I guess the first thing to do with a new program is find
HELP!!!!!

I've been learning a lot just trying things out, not sure but I think
Word has more new and is more different than Publisher.

I know there's a WordArt tutorial online (think it's Mary's I probably
have it saved) I couldn't do before because my Publisher was too old.

I want to know all I can about this, at least these two programs.

Someone else (who has Pub 07) sent me a flyer she wanted me to print and
it needed some changes and I found I was easily able to change the file
(with my Pub 07) not sure if this is something new, I've never tried it.

oh, one thing, I think this has come up here before but don't remember if
there's an easy answer, the person who sent the full page flyer asked me if
I could reduce it and make smaller, maybe like 4 cards per page, using her
same design. I tried to make it smaller, but the parts were all separte (she
used a Pub 07 template) and when I looked to "group" it, this was greyed out
and only ungroup available. I did a screen capture of it with paint shop
pro, saved it as a jpg (I can probably save the Pub file as a jpg but
haven't located it on the new version yet) reduced it and set it up 4 to a
page, but it didn't print good.

Not a big deal, she ended up designing a smaller version (she doesn't
have a printer and it's been good practice getting and editing files)

Also, the colors she set up (like the shade of blue) on the file doesn't
seem to print the same on my printer, but this might be my printer, and I'm
currently using cheap ink.

Transferring pub 07 files like this, they should be exact in each
person's version of Publisher, I would think?

I should probably start all new topics with this, but just thinking of
them as I write. Just learning the new programs.

Different printers will print different shades of blue. And neither will
match what you see on your screen or hers. That's just the way life does.
Yes, there are things you can do that would make it closer but with home
equipment, and the usual time limitations, it probably isn't worth all of
the effort. (I used to fuss over that stuff - not any more.)

And I bought really cheap (low priced) compatible ink from an ebay
seller, which seems to prove "you get what you pay for". Sometimes it works
good, sometimes it doesn't.

Oh I just found out how to change the default font, when on the home
page, click the lower corner (arrow) of the font tab and the box to pick
fonts, etc comes up with a box to set as default.

Everything is still there, probably easer to find then the older
version.
