% complete to the status date

hi,
could someone explain where is the difference between selecting and
unselecting the "Edist to total task % complete will spread to the status
date" option in Tools, Options, Calculation?
I can't see any difference in project behaviour when i enter task % completion
thanks

Hello Cristina,

If you are using the "Progress Lines" : Tools / Tracking / Progress
Lines... this option allows the progress line to go forward (in the future)
if you are in advance on the schedule.

thank you so much, Gérard

so, if I understand correctly, is that a merely "visual" option? just to
help you see if things are going "better" than scheduled (provided you have
progress lines enabled) ?

if i go back to project online help (italian version, mine) it talks about
distributing task % completion changes across the schedule to the status date
(whereas being the checkbox unselected, it would distribute compeltion % to
the end of task duration)

whatever percentage i insert, both with the checkbox enabled or not, the
result is the same: the black progress bar inside the task bar has the same
lenght;
actually, as you said, if i enable progress lines, then the vertical
progress line's aspect differs if the task is in advance on the schedule;
but my question is: is that all?
what about distributing differently the completion percentage the help talks
about?

hope my question is intelligible enough, and again, thanks for replying

Cristina,

As far as I can test, this option doesn't do anything more. Instead of the 2
others options nearby:
- Move end of completed part after status date...
- Move start of remaining parts before status date...
which have a real effect on the distribution of actual and remaining work.
NB : these 2 options have to be set before you enter a % on the task.

thanks for your reply, Gérald
i still can't understand what the online help actually meant, since progress
lines are not mentioned there,
but i really appreciated your help

good night : )
