Computer crash on opening Word

Suddenly, after four years, my computer crashed with Word and now will not
open it or any Word document without the RAm filling completely and the
system freezing up. Any ideas? I have done the obvious of UNinstall -
Reinstall the whole Office package - twice!

Hi Tony,

It may seem to be the obvious, but it rarely works. The trouble is that the
damage is usually in files that uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch.

The 'obvious' rarely achieves anything useful, as the problem is almost
certainly external to the Word installation. See

Delete all *.tmp and ~*.* files with no apps open. After
a crash, Word will not clean up all those open temporary
files and will attach itself to them when Word reopens.
You end up in a loop of crashes.
