Connecting to server across the internet

I know that Microsoft do not recommend it but I need to configure
Project Professional so that I can connect to the server across the
internet. WebAccess is not enough. Has anyone does this and if so
how?

Hi,

The recommended and only practical way is to use Terminal Services. Have a
TS server physically close to Project Server and then connect to TS from
anywhere in the world. I'm currently using one that has a ping time of
350-500 ms and it's acceptable.

Unfortunately this does not help me as Terminal Services is not an
option. Can it be done any other way?

I think Terminal Services is the only way. The quantity of data that needs
to flow would be far to big over the internet except for the fastest of
links. Anything less than 10 Mbits/sec may time out or corrupt data. TS is
the recommended solution from Microsoft, in fact their only recommended
remote access solution for Project Professional.

You can use Project to connect directly, but as Rod suggested its not
recommended at all. You basically need to have ports 80 and 1433 open to
your project server. Again, however, i must stress that this is not
recommended for both perfomance and security reasons!

VPN works fine. We have a 1MBit symmetrical DSL line at the office.
Loading a project is not the fastest thing in the world. But it beats
driving down to work. We currently only have 50 people in the
resource pool. I can't comment on whether there would be unacceptable
delays or timing problems if you had a large one and tried to add
resources to a project.
